When we welcome Spring time we also welcome (you guessed it) allergy season! This season is about recharging and renewing ourselves but it can sometimes be a tough task due to seasonal allergies, itchy eyes, sore throat, and runny noses.
The simple ingredients found in our kitchen can provide simple yet effective remedy for the seasonal allergy blues using honey and spices of course!
Honey is considered sacred in Ayurveda, the oldest practicing holistic science. It is a part of the ancient formulation called Panchamrita, literally 'the five nectars of immortality'. Honey is sweet in taste and has a warming drying quality. Honey also pacifies kapha dosha and breaks up congested mucus.
Dry ginger powder is pungent and sweet in taste and also has heating and drying qualities. Ginger pacifies vata and kapha doshas and clears phlegm accumulated during coughs and/or colds
Black pepper powder is pungent in taste and has heating and drying qualities. It pacifies vata and kapha dosha and is commonly used for colds, congestion and coughs as well.
Turmeric powder is pungent, bitter and astringent in taste and also has heating and drying qualities. This wonderful spice pacifies all doshas and is also well-known for its anti-inflammatory properties.
Do you see a pattern here? All ingredients have properties that help with the seasonal allergy symptoms. They help soothe sore throats, runny noses and more. Remember that our kitchen heals because food is medicine.
